Stu's Weather Thumbrules
These thumbrules are intended for the Flagstaff, Arizona area.
- Mondays and Thursdays
- Weather forecasts shift on Mondays and Thursdays.
Especially in the winter. Particularly in the
afternoons
- Southern Storms
- Low pressure systems approaching from the south
leave much of their moisture on the Mogollon Rim. Thus,
they produce less than forecasted precipitation.
- Wind and Snow
- If it is windy, snow will not start to fall. If it
is snowing, the wind will not increase by much. If the
wind significantly drops, the snow can begin. Drifting
of snow may occur after it is on the ground.
- Lingering Snow Cover
- Although recent history (prior to 2007) has been to the contrary, accumulating snows can remain on the ground for weeks. In the past, the lore has been that it snows and the snow disappears after a few days.
